This is the salvaged "Bridge Hatch" (from the Bridge to the Conning Tower). The plaque reads: Main hatch where the Captain, LCDR F. Daniel Nieva, dies while trying to save his crew." The Captain remained on the Bridge, after the collision, attempting to close the hatch. His bravery brings Honor upon the Submarine Forces and their crews throughout the World. |
