Christmas Island

by:  JAMES P. CUCINOTTA, HMC(SS)

In the Bio. of Trigger it mentions the boat called at Christmas Island. We did indeed stop at Christmas to off load 12 of our crew men who were just about blinded by dish washing soap that they had used to remove garbage etc. during a ceremony we had when crossing the Equator. It was a terrible ordeal. SubPac dispatched an aircraft from Pearl to pick up the injured crewmen. After about one month in the hospital there eyes healed. That was a start of a wild WestPac trip. It was also the last WestPac trip for Trigger. We then sold the boat to Italy. I transferred to the Trout and guess what? Yea back to West Pac again. I retired Mar.17, 75. I still miss the Trigger.
